ROBERT J. FULTON was born in Delaware County, Ohio, 27 February 1829, the first of five children born to ALEXANDER and ELIZA JONES FULTON.

We do not have record of ROBERT J. FULTON'S middle name, although family tradition suggests that it was Jones.

At the age of fourteen, ROBERT J. FULTON moved to Fairfield, Iowa Territory with his parents, ALEXANDER and ELIZA JONES FULTON, his sister MARTHA AMELIA, and his brothers; GILBERT
LAFAYETTE, JOSEPH WARREN and WILLIAM C.

In the Fairfield Census of 1850 we find ROBERT J. FULTON listed in the Alexander Fulton family, age 21, occupation Clerk. We do not know for whom he was a clerk.

At the time of his death, ROBERT J. FULTON was engaged to SARAH ELIZABETH MINEAR who later married ROBERT'S brother, JOSEPH WARREN FULTON.

ROBERT J. FULTON died 26 May 1857 at the age of 28 years, 3 months of consumption (tuberculosis).

In ROBERT J. FULTON'S will, found in box 16 at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Fairfield, Iowa, it is recorded that at the time of his death at the age of twenty eight he left an estate of three thousand dollars to be administered by his father, ALEXANDER FULTON.

ROBERT J. FULTON is buried in the Old Fairfield City Cemetery, Lot #52. There are one large tombstone, as indicated in the biography of ALEXANDER FULTON, and five small tombstones, one bearing the name ROBERT J. with no other information.
