There is some confusion about Moses and Sarah Fulton. Some of the older members of the Alexander branch of the family remember hearing that Moses was not William and Mary Coleman's son, but rather the child of an Irish Fulton family which was no relation to our family.

There is also a question about whether Sarah A. and Hetty were the same woman or whether Hetty was a second wife. Hetty is more commonly a nickname for Harriett than for Sarah. However, Sarah is buried in the same cemetery as Moses.

In the 1850 Iowa Census of Wapello County there are, in the William Fulton family, listings for a Hannah Fulton, and two young children; Marilla, age 4 and William, age 1. There is thought that Hannah, whom we learn from later records was a widow, may have been the widow of William Fulton, Jr. and that Marilla and William were their children. If that is true, the ten year old William listed in Moses and Hetty Fulton's household in 1860 may, or may not, have been the same child.
