Earlier Fultons

The following two sets of names are listed in the files of the library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Salt Lake City,Utah, as the first known members of our family. I have not found any evidence to confirm or refute that assumption, so until such time as someone can find a second source to confirm the information we will accept it as a possibility that these are indeed the earliest recorded persons in our Fulton family.

ARCHIBALD FULTON

  3. Married: 4 March 1694 to JEAN SMITH.
  4. Death date and site unknown.
  5. Burial site unknown.

JEAN SMITH

  1. Parents names unknown.
  2. Birth date and site unknown.
  3. Married: 4 March 1694 to ARCHIBALD FULTON.
  4. Death date and site unknown.
  5. Burial site unknown.

The only child of ARCHIBALD and JEAN SMITH FULTON for whom we have record is JAMES. Because of the Fulton's enthusiasm for naming their sons James, this James will henceforth be referred to in other pages as JAMES (Gen.2).

  1. JAMES FULTON was born 7April 1695 in Stewarton parish, Ayrshire, Scotland, the son of ARCHIBALD and JEAN SMITH FULTON.

  2. At age 45, JAMES FULTON married on 15 May 1740 in Ayrshire, Scotland, to MARRION DALE.

  3. Six known children were born to JAMES (Gen. 2) and MARRION DALE FULTON:
    HUGH (22 March 1741 - unknown)
    JOHN (9 January 1743 - unknown)
    ALEXANDER (15 April 1747 - unknown)
    MARRION (22 March 1752 - unknown)
    the above four children are listed as born in
    Stewarton Parish, Ayrshire, Scotland    .
    JAMES (6 January 1754 - c.1830)
    THOMAS (11 January 1754* - unknown)
    James and Thomas are recorded as being born in
    Dunlop Parish, Ayrshire, Scotland.
    (Dunlop is about four miles northwest of Stewarton.)

  4. Death date and site unknown.
  5. Burial site unknown.

*One source lists Thomas' birth date as 1745 rather than 1754. Marjorie Mack Oetting suggests that James and Thomas may have been twins with one birth date inaccurately recorded.

MARRION DALE

  2. Birth date and site unknown.
  3. Married:15 May 1740 in Ayrshire, to JAMES (Gen.2) FULTON.
  4. MARRION DALE and JAMES (Gen. 2) FULTON were the parents of the six children listed above.
