ICAN Staff

Betty Ahrens, Executive Director, is responsible for the overall direction of the organization including financial management, staff supervision, affiliate relations and strategic planning. Betty can be reached at BettyAhrens@IowaCAN.org and works from our Iowa City office.

Phillip Cryan, Program Director, is organizing Our Common Values program and our efforts to bring an end to the Iraq War. You can reach him at PCryan@IowaCAN.org and he works in our Des Moines office as well as from Ames.

Matt Denner, Program Intern, works on the Americans Against Escalation in Iraq campaign, organizing concerned citizens to bring the Iraq war to an end. He is based in Ames, where he is a student at Iowa State University. You can reach him at MDenner@IowaCAN.org.

Gypsy Dolgos, Director of Membership Administration, manages the organization’s database of members, affiliates, and board of directors, and maintains ICAN’s web page. She can be reached at GDolgos@IowaCAN.org and works in our Iowa City office.

Amy Logsdon, Political Director, manages organizing staff and ICAN's election work. She can be reached at ALogsdon@IowaCAN.org and works in our Iowa City office.

Jim McClanahan, Phone Canvass Director, is in charge of recruitment, staff development and oversight of our team of part-time phone canvassers. He can be reached at Kiss@IowaCAN.org and works from our Iowa City office.

Gayle Warner, Financial Manager, handles ICAN’s accounting needs as well as general office administration and clerical duties. She can be reached at GWarner@IowaCAN.org and works from our Iowa City office.

Charlie Wishman, Organizer, works predominately on budget, taxes, health care and Social Security. He is heading up ICAN’s efforts for Medicare prescription drug coverage reform and state legislation to bring health care to all Iowans. He can be reached at CWishman@IowaCAN.org and he works in our Des Moines office.

The Field Canvass recruits new members to ICAN, and raises money for the organization. Field canvassers work year-round knocking on doors throughout Iowa, educating Iowa residents about our health care and renewable energy programs, and inviting members to get involved by joining ICAN.

The Phone Canvass conducts outreach, education, and fundraising to ICAN’s individual members. The majority of ICAN’s budget is raised from our members via the phone canvass. The phone and field canvasses also assist the organizing staff by building ICAN’s e-mail network and identifying potential volunteers.
